Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, but now in a new land, the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies emerged from the Holocaust.
The evolution of this new democratic body, representing all the jews of New South Wales, resulted from the agitation of the pre-War refugees and the impact of the events of World War II. It was considerably enhanced by the arrival in Australia of 17,000 Holocaust survivors. This fascinating history examines the origins and development of the Board and its contribution to the jewish and general community of New South Wales, highlighting key areas of its work, including the campaign for Soviet Jewry, public relations, education, Holocaust Remembrance and reconciliation with Australia's indigenous community.
