Goodbye Maman is the autobiographical story of Holocaust survivor Jacqueline Dale. It is an illustrated children’s book written from a child’s perspective and includes letters and drawings submitted by the students of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School after hearing Jacqueline’s story at the Museum.

The book relates Jacqui’s story of survival as a child in France. She went to school with her best friend Jeanine, played in the streets of the 11th arrondissement and looked after her younger brother Charles. Then, on 1 September 1939, the world as she knew it ended. France was at war, and Hitler began mounting attacks on the Jews. One day Jeanine warns Jacqui that the police are rounding up Jewish women and children. Jacqui, her mother and brother flee Paris and begin a journey that eventually sees Jacqui saying goodbye to her mother, wondering if they might ever see each other again.
