I am the only one who can sull do that, and I'm no longer that young either.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHalf a century after the murder of his mother in Auschwitz, Isaac Lipschits writes her a letter. In it he reawakens memories of their family life in the years before the outbreak of the Second World War, and its ropercussions. He relates to her the fate of her husband, her daughtor and her five sons.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIsaac Lipschits was born in 1930 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. During the war he was hidden in the city, later in the northern Netherlands Province of Friesland.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom 1948-49 he served as a volunteer in the Israeli army. He studied political science in Amsterdam and Paris and lectured at the universities of Amsterdam, Hafa, Jerusalem, Rotterdam and Leiden, In 1971 he was appointed Professor of Contemporary History at Groningen University, He took early retirement at the end of 1990, and wrote this small but momentous book in 1992. In 2007 a second edition appeared in a printrun of 250,000 and was distributed free to the citizens of Rotterdam in remembrance of their Jewish war victim compatriots on Holocaust Memorial Day, 27th January 2008.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIsaac Lipschits died on 24th May 2008.
